What is Reiki?

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese language and means, "universal life force energy." Rei describes the universal and limitless aspect of this energy, while Ki represents the life force, which is in all living things. The Ki is the same energy that is known as Chi by the Chinese, Prana, by the Hindu, and Mana, by the Kahunas.

The origin of Reiki dates back 100,000 years into the ancient history of Japan, Egypt, and China/Tibet. It was used in India, China, and Japan, and came to us through Dr.Mikao Usui, who rediscovered it in the middle of the 19th Century.

Reiki assists the body in healing itself, and is totally natural and holistic. It also balances the body's energies, thus bringing body, mind, and spirit into proper alignment and harmony.

Reiki energy can be used anytime, anywhere, and by anyone-even the very young, as there is no special equipment required. It is energy, and energy never tires.

Reiki energy is constantly flowing and moving in a counter-clockwise spiral and will go where it is needed, in the quantity required. It works well with other types of therapy and will help them to be more effective, often causing the process to succeed more rapidly.

People of all faiths, religions, ideologies, and philosophies can use Reiki energy successfully.

What is Therapeutic Touch?

Therapeutic Touch is based on several ancient healing practices and involves consciously directed energy exchange using the hands as a focus for facilitating healing. It involves the balancing and modulating energy through the use of intensity, imagery and colour, as well as through sensitivity, intuition, enhancement, personal healing and growth.

This practice has gained acceptance in the nursing profession and is used in hospitals and other care centers throughout the country.

What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnosis is a naturally-induced state of relaxed concentration in which we communicate suggestions to our subconscious mind. Using relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to eliminate fear and tension during the birthing process will reduce the need for chemical painkillers and shortens the first stage of labour by several hours. Exercising control over the body's natural anaesthesia allows the mother to experience the birth in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation and to be fully awake and involved.
